Gas Permeable (GP) lenses are made of a firm lasting plastic that has high oxygen transmissibility. As it does not contain water like soft lenses, they are more resistant to bacteria. GP contact lenses are easy to clean and disinfect, and retain their shape better than soft contact lenses.
Customized for individuals, GP contact lenses are made using the exact shape of your cornea, with the correct curvature, size and power. Since GP contact lenses retain their shape better, they provide sharper vision compared to soft contact lenses.
GP lenses are slowly gaining popularity with contact lens wearers. The high oxygen transmissibility of GP lenses gives the cornea more oxygen to “breathe” compared to standard contact lenses. However, there will be an initial phase of discomfort as the wearer gets used to the lenses in a few weeks time.
Each pair of GP lenses will last for up to 18 months. The lenses will be ordered to suit your curvature and size of your cornea. Special lens designs that correct presbyopia are also available for RGPs.
